The 2011-12
season will mark the 8th season for Coach
Heaney at Souhegan, and his 4th as
Varsity Head Coach.
This past season, the Sabers reached the NHIAA DII
Final Four for the first time in seven years, as the
#10 seed Souhegan defeated #7 and #2 on the
road--the first time a Souhegan basketball team has
won two road playoff games in the same season.
In the past three years, the Sabers received 15
Academic All-State Awards, one First Team and one
Second Team All-State, and seven All-Area Awards, as
well as a NH Sportspage.com Runner-up Coach of the
Year for Coach Heaney.
Coach Heaney continues to be involved in coaching at
the youth level in Amherst and serves on the Amherst
Recreation Commission. A graduate of Binghamton
University, he lives in Amherst with wife Maria and
children Erin, Kate, and Brian.

Mike Boehm takes over as Head JV boys coach for
the Sabers after serving four years as Mike
Heaney's top assistant. Mike is a graduate of
the Indiana University School of Education and
was a former head boys varsity basketball coach
in Texas. During his tenure as a head coach,
Mike's teams earned two Class A playoff trips,
one as a district champion. Also during that
time, Mike was an assistant coach and scout for
the 1989 Class A Undefeated State Football Champion
Thorndale (TX) Bulldogs. Mike has previously
coached at all levels of basketball grades 1-12
and has 17 years of combined coaching
experience.
Mike moved to Amherst in 2000 with
his wife Wendy and they have two
sons - Ryan, 12, and Jeffrey, 10.

Scott Kent is entering his third
year coaching at Souhegan High
School. Coach Kent is a lifelong
hoops fanatic with many years of
coaching including: SHS JV boys
hoops, Manchester Suburban
League boys basketball, Amherst
Recreation basketball, Amherst
Track Club, Amherst Pop Warner
Football, and Amherst Youth
Baseball. He also coached at the
collegiate level as the jump
coach for the University of New
Hampshire Track and Field
team.
Coach Kent played high school
hoops for Class A Sanford, ME,
where he was captain and MVP. He
received an undergraduate degree
from the University of New
Hampshire and a masters from
Colorado Technical College. He
ran track for 4 years at UNH
when he wasn't spending time in
Lundholm being an intramural
basketball gym rat.
He
currently lives in Amherst with
his wife of 21 years, Lisa, his
son Tanner, and daughter Peyton.

Rob played high school basketball for Wilton High
School and most recently played at the college level
at Nashua Community College. He is in his first year
as the 3rd Team Head Coach

Serving as Athletic Trainer for the Sabers for the
last seven years is Rachel Shatney. Rachel is
enjoying caring for the athletes and their injuries.
Rachel is a New Hampshire native. She grew up
outside of Keene and attended Keene High School.
Afterwards, she received her Bachelors of Science
from Northeastern University in Boston,
Massachusetts.
Following graduation from college, Rachel moved to
upstate New York, where she worked for three years
as the head athletic trainer for three high schools
as well as working for a physical therapy clinic.
Rachel is currently the head athletic trainer for
Souhegan High School and spends mornings assisting
physical therapists by working at the Center for
Physical Therapy and Exercise clinic in Manchester.
Rachel belongs to the National Athletic Trainer's
Association, is a certified and licensed athletic
trainer as well as certified in CPR, First Aid, and
AED through the National Heart Association.
